Henna - a pregnant belly tattoo - tribal sun style

tribal sun tattoo in henna for pregnancy

Here's a photo I meant to post awhile ago.
I am so fortunate to have so many henna clients who choose wonderful designs that sometimes it is hard to know what to publish.

Here is a tribal sun for C ... and of course, her new baby. I mix a special henna paste for pregnant women.
It is basically the same as all others, but I double check the essential oils I have to be certain that none of them are contra indicated for pregnant women.

A few I avoid are cajeput and clove. I have seen many sites that suggestion that clove oil not be added to henna paste, but in my 5 years of experience.. a drop or two has not yet caused any problems.

Henna Kits - Artists KIt for $14.95

artists henna kit

I have just finished a fresh batch of spicy fragrant henna tea.. and now have about 15 henna kits Ready To Sell!
These kits include 35 grams of 2006 Jamila henna.. you know.. the incredibly finely sifted powder, essential oils (two premeasured vials), instructions.. but most interestingly, the henna tea blend I have been using for the past 5 years.

I use the tea when I am doing Bridal Tattoo in particular. It seems that all the different ingredients help the stain. I am sure that there are excellent recipes that don't require the tea. In fact, I often make henna paste without it.

However, if I know that I am going to be doing a large tattoo, or one that is really important.. I use the tea when mixing the paste along with the essential oils & lemon juice.

So.. I thought I should let you know the tea is fresh & the kits are ready to sell. I offer free shipping within the Continental US, so there are no surprises on the price. It's $14.95 by First Class Mail. Click the title for more info.
Wishing you joy, Ann George

Henna tattoo for summer - bold henna tattoos

henna tattoo for the leg

Here is a photo of a bold leg tattoo I did just this past Saturday at BLU salon. My client knew just what she wanted, she chose a bold floral design for the leg from my photo portfolio.

Of course, no two designs should ever be the same, and it is important to fit the style & the pattern of a piece to the client. I think this pattern, which wraps around to the front of the leg, works well.

For those of you who are new to henna tattoo, this is NOT a photo of black henna. This is a photo taken with the henna paste still on the skin. The paste, which goes on a dark green color, dries to black.

When the paste is taken off the skin, the traditional dark red, red brown, red orange stain remains.
Have an artist on your shopping list? Visit my henna site to get a quick & easy henna kit. A great gift.

Henna tattoo artist at work.

henna artist jacksonville florida

I almost forgot to post a picture from the Grey Goose Gala - a film festival in Jacksonville, Florida.

I really appreciate the opportunity to celebrate film.. and cultural diversity!

Here is a photo of henna in process at a very upscale evening event where I had a great time.
The event co-ordinators who hired Spirit Vision Henna Tattoo were pleased that so many people enjoyed a Mendhi moment.

Notice those extra goose neck lamps?

We were outside on a lovely Spring evening.. and they came in very handy.

Easy Henna Pattern - fine lines possible with Jamila

Here is a photo of a henna design for one of the talented stylists at BLU salon. This free hand design is based in part on her selection of a style of tattoo from one of the many design books I bring to work. It is also created to compliment the shape of her hand.

I began to draw the pattern just above the wrist making a shell outline that is thicker on one side than the other. That pattern is filled with very fine lines. Next, I drew a curving line .. and while it may be hard to see at first.. if you look closely, you will see it. It is duplicated.. so there seems to be a ribbon.. filled again with very fine lines. The flower in the center of the hand was an important design component for this client. As well, since she works with her hands every day.. we tried to keep the design off the fingers.

It didn't take long at all to create this mehndi. The silky smooth (never needs sifting) Jamila henna makes a great paste every time. Click the title of this post to purchase fresh 2006 henna powder.

Jamila Henna Powder - 2006 crop - on sale!

jamila henna powderGreat color right!! I took this photo of my own hand about 36 hours after the henna paste was removed. I am holding the new 35gm box of Jamila Henna powder.
The amazingly fresh 2006 crop of Jamila henna is ready to sell. ( I finally put the shopping cart on line).
I have two sizes for sale - the 35 gm box of foil sealed super fine henna.. and the 100 gm box!
The small box makes enough for 3 or 4 cones of paste (using my recipe anyway.) If you don't make up henna very often, then choose the smaller box.
The 100 gm box makes lots! I am still using the first one I opened, and I am making two fresh cones a week.
Click the title of this post to get to my henna website.. and the shopping carts.
Stay tuned for more photos.

Lizards! Tribal style henna tattoo

I would love to give credit where credit is due .. and this great lizard pattern is not my own design.
It is incredibly popular!! A great tribal style design.

I really like the way its riding along the back of this lovely girl... so.. if you drew this pattern, my hat is off to you. If you know who did.. please post a comment on the blog so we can give a link to the artist.

This photo was taken at BLU.. a great salon in Historic Five Points, Riverside, Jacksonville.. where you can get henna -ed every Saturday. It's best to call for an appointment if you want a complex design. You can reach Ann George at 904-993.7466.

Stay tuned.. I have photos of the June 2006 Jamila henna coming soon.

Celebrating Pregnancy with a Henna Tattoo for the Belly

pregnant belly henna tattoo

It is always an honor & a pleasure to be invited to do henna in celebration of the birth of a child.

The couple who came for mehndi had a very clear idea of what they wanted... and they also brought photos!

The father of the baby took lots of pictures as the henna was being applied... and I was able to take this one of the final result.

As always, i spoke with the mother before I made the paste to be sure she did not have any allergies to any of the ingredients in the henna paste.

Fine Line Henna Palms at BLU - Jacksonville Tattoo

I am so happy to have just received my first shipment of Jamila Henna. This is fresh, fresh henna from the June harvest.. and so finely ground that I just open the box.. and mix the powder right up.
This very finely ground henna makes the most remarkably smooth paste making it easy to quickly accomplish designs that would take longer with a paste of variable consistancy.
Look at this photo of a traditional Indian pattern.. note the fine criss cross lines on the fingers. This tattoo was done using the traditional henna cone, not a squeeze bottle or a cone with a special metal tip.
Click the title of this post to go to the henna powder page on my website. The shopping carts for Jamila powder are finally on line!

Tattoo for Women of Color - Henna Tattoo

Here is a photo of a finished Yin/Yang symbol in Henna. I am so grateful my client came back by the salon to let me take a photo of her finished design.

This tattoo is a week old. We used fresh henna to create the darker portion of the Yin/Yang symbol, and the client's lovely "pecan" skin for the lighter side. Many times women of color in my city wonder if the henna will stain their skin... and of course it will.. but it is very good to be able to put a photo on line.

Visit again for more tattoos for the ankle.

Simple Ankle Tattoo Pattern - Henna Tattoo Jacksonville

Here is a simple ankle tattoo. I did this design using a wide flow of paste so that the client would get good color.

It is important to ask your clients if they are wearing body lotion.. or sun tan oil.. before you start a design. These products can interfere with the final result. I hope you enjoy this photo. Visit my website for more information, or stop by the shop on Saturdays.

Wishing you joy,

Ann George

Henna Bracelet for Mindy of LockStar, Inc.

Here we go... a "Chef's Choice" henna tattoo for Mindy!
For those of you new to henna tattoo, "Chef's Choice" is my term for "Here is my hand.. please do what ever design you like."
Once I know how much a client wants to spend, and I have a general idea about the style of henna they like.. I start.

It seems as if Henna forms its own relationship with each person, and their design just evolves. A case in point is this "slave bangle" style tattoo for Mindy, a stylist at BLU... where you can get a henna tattoo almost every Saturday.

Please note that this is a photo of the henna paste still on the skin. The finished color is not black, but some shade of reddish brown. I hope to be able to publish a photo of the finished color.. but we have to wait at least two days.

Sexy Wings Tattoo in Henna

I was really hoping for a change to do a sexy, unique back piece in henna.. and I am very happy to post this picture.

If you think henna tattoo is limited to hands and feet.. think again!

It really can be applied almost anywhere, and with time & attention to detail, good powder & lots of lemon sugar ( ok.. and maybe a blow dryer) you can get good color.

I look forward to seeing the finished color of this tattoo... I am hoping for a rich dark brown!

All best wishes,

Ann George

Yemeni Henna - finished color for back of hand tattoo

yemeni henna paste finished colorHere is a photo of the finished color for that great tattoo from BLU salon! The client left the paste on her skin for about four hours to get this great dark color!
This henna paste was made of Yemeni henna... the Hadrmi powder just recently reviewed, Geranium Bourbon essential oil, Lavender essential oil, some Tea Tree.. lemon juice & perhaps several drops of clove oil. That's it.
The henna powder was blended to be on the wet side as people usually want simple designs when the just drop in for some body art... as well, they often want tattoo on the arms, legs or feet.. so a wet blend give a dark color in all those spots!
I will be at BLU again this Saturday.......... maybe I'll see you there. Peace! Ann George

Hadrmi Wedding Henna Review - Yemeni Henna Powder

hadrmi henna powder from yemen

I am happy to be able to post a review of Hadrmi Wedding Henna.
I received the sample from Ali Ebrahem who may be contacted at henna@jawaherbar.com.

The henna arrived in an air tight packet with instructions in English and what I think is Arabic.
henna color after 3 hoursThe henna had a great, fresh smell when opened, and the powder was finely ground. All the yemeni henna I have seen is a golden color... so if you are used to seeing green henna, please know that this golden brown henna is very fresh.

The paste mixed up to be a nice gummy paste...
which is good for fine lines and bridal henna in particular.

It was easy to adjust and to work with. It absorbed lemon juice & essential oils very well. It also released the dye quickly, in about 4 hours in the sun. To the left is a photo of the henna color after the paste
has been removed for only three hours. The black henna you see on the wrist is actually a picture of henna paste still on the skin. As you scroll down, you will see a photo of the finished color on both the palm of the hand and the wrist.

finished henna colorNotice how dark the henna is at the thumb, and on the fleshy part of the palm of the hand near the thumb. This excellent dark color is natural. Nothing other than lemon juice and essential oils were added to get this color.

This company sells wholesale
by the container - which I am not able to import at this time.
Should you care to contact them, the phone number on their packet
is: +967-5-357910. I wish you all great success!! Ann George

Henna Tattoo from a Bridal Shower - Ankle Bangle

bold henna anklet tattoo
henna tattoo for the ankle I was very happy to be invited to do henna tattoo for guests at an intimate bridal shower this weekend.
The decorations were fabulous! The mood was so lovely.. and as there were only a few guests present, everyone was able to choose an intricate henna design if they wanted one.
Of course, some simple designs are just as lovely as the more intricate ones.
However, I was very happy to be able to do this bold henna tattoo in an anklet cuff style.
What I invite you to notice is that the bold style of this design is a perfect completment to the clients ankle.
She was delighted... and I was happy to offer this modified traditional design.
For events where it is reasonable to expect that most people will not choose to have henna applied to the hands I often make the paste more liquid.. giving it the greatest opportunity to stain the skin.
I was also very happy to have my beautiful assistant on hand to apply lemon sugar to all the designs as they were drying.
This additional service really seemed to help the guests feel more pampered!

If you live in North East Florida an would like to hostess a henna party, please feel welcome to contact the Studio at (904) 993-7466.

Bridal Henna Tattoo for the palms of the hands.

bridal henna tattoo for the palms
Sometimes a picture just speaks for itself.

Here are the palms of a happy bride just 24 hours after the past was removed.

The henna powder used here was from the souks of Dubai. (Yes, this is the henna powder used in all henna kits!)

The color was even darker on her wedding day.

Artwork by Ann George of Spirit Vision Henna Tattoo, Jacksonville, Florida.

Bridal henna by appointment. Please call 904-993-7466 for more information.

Henna Tattoo for the Foot - Bridal Style

Here is an example of a bridal style foot tattoo. This is a fairly traditional design.. and one that was fun & easy to do.

Of course, the most important part of successful henna tattoo is that the client is satisfied! In this case, I am happy to say that Miss Linda very much liked her mehndi.

I also feel that it is important to create a tattoo that "fits" not only the personality of the client, but also suits the part of the body that I am working with.

Come visit again as I have lots more photos to upload.

Henna Tattoo for Samadhi Belly Dancer

henna tattoo on the front of the belly
side view of lotus henna tattoo pattern
open lotus henna tattoo, lower back tattoo
side view henna waist tattoo I am always happy to have the chance to tattoo the belly, and I must thank all the tribal dancers of the Samadhi Dance troupe for supporting the art of henna tattoo here in Jacksonville, Florida!

Today I am posting pics of a wrap around belly tattoo. The first image is the "tease" front of the design. The tattoo actually began with an open lotus blossom on the lower back (scroll down). The dancer knew she wanted that. The challenge then became to create a wrap around pattern that would be bold, visible at a distance, and compatible with the lotus.

As you can see, the leaf pattern under the lotus was expanded and wrapped around to "vine" onto the belly. Hopefully I will be able to upload a picture of the finished color sometime soon.

The next posts should be of test results for various henna suppliers who have sent samples to the Studio. I am always looking for great henna powder, and to date.. the best sample tested for easy of use, great texture & good color is the Jamila powder. Test results are on the blog!
