Henna Season Has Begun

The weather has turned hot enough for me to make good paste that will give you a rich stain on your skin.* Appointments are required, but same day sessions are possible. For dark color, two days notice is a must. I am able to offer "Front Porch" Henna this year. I have a big, shady front porch, a fan, and comfortable seating.

Here are a few important points to remember before you come for your design:

1) You must not have sunscreen, lotion, nor oil of any kind on your skin. These products keep henna from staining your skin.

2) You must leave the henna paste on at least four hours to get a good stain.

3) Henna goes on the hands and feet, the lower part of the arm and the lower leg. If you ask for a design any where else - back, shoulder, upper arm - I can to the work, but I cannot guarantee the stain.

4) If you want to a beautiful design that complements your features, pleaset your artist do as she pleases will get the best result.

5) If you want something special, please send the design ahead. Designs start at $25 and many of the simple ones you see pictured on my sites cost that much.

5) The more elaborate the pattern, the more time and material it takes, so the greater the cost. Bridal henna is billed by the hour.

6) Wear clothing that will not interfere with your henna. Remember, this is a paste and takes a while to dry.

7) If you want henna on your feet, please wear flip flops with very small straps. If you have someone to drive you home, that is best. You can go barefoot!

8) Remember, many people believe that tubes sold online are actually henna. Some are, but a great many are not. There is no such thing as black henna.... that can be very dangerous to wear. If you see henna that looks like "shoe polish" then you are seeing a body paint, which may contain harmful chemicals.

9) Henna is only one color, and each person will have a different outcome.

10) When you removed the henna, please scrape it off. A plastic card or butter knife will do just fine. If the henna is really stuck on, use a warm wash cloth to soften the paste. If you must use water to get the henna paste off, please dry your skin and cover the design with olive or coconut oil at once.

11) To get long lasting henna please keep your design out of water as long as possible. You may also keep oil over the finished design to make it last.

*If you have been getting prepared henna from tubes, I do not use that kind of paste.

**Please be sure to wash your skin well and to use the restroom before arrival. This really is front porch henna.
